Global Educator & Creative Explorer

As an international educator, artist, and writer, I explore the intersections of design, visual art, and language. My work is driven by a passion for creativity, cultural exchange, and learning. Here, you’ll find a collection of my artwork, educational courses, and resources that reflect my journey and expertise in fostering engaging, meaningful learning experiences.

For over 16 years, I’ve been teaching Design and Engineering-based courses, beginning in the United States at a STEAM-focused high school in Asheville, North Carolina, where I taught courses in Engineering, Robotics, and Design. Currently, I’m based in Surabaya, Indonesia, teaching Design Technology and Visual Arts through the International Baccalaureate curriculum. Design Technology is a unique challenge and a joy because it encompasses so many fields—creative thinking, visual expression, research, and the sciences. It’s a perfect fit for someone like me who loves to learn and bring various disciplines together.

My teaching philosophy centers on cultivating creativity as a lifelong practice, and maybe obsession. I believe that curiosity, critical thinking, and the drive to develop one’s self-awareness are just as essential as academic knowledge. My goal is to help students develop a deep understanding of themselves and their world, using creativity to bridge diverse fields and make meaningful connections.

As an artist, I work across a variety of media, from printmaking and photography to painting and mixed media. My work often explores themes of place, culture, belonging, and personal transformation, gravitating toward subjects that capture the essence of culture and community. Art, for me, is essential to life—it brings a sense of humanity and connection into our daily surroundings.

I also create design, art, and language learning courses with an emphasis on brain science, inquiry, and interactivity. My courses are visually rich, often including games and creative exercises, and are crafted for international students, including those learning English as a second language. I’m expanding my offerings to make these learning experiences accessible to anyone, regardless of background or age.

In my earlier years, I gained hands-on experience in the culinary and mechanical fields, which taught me valuable skills in managing people, stress, and time. These roles instilled a strong work ethic and shaped my perspective as both an educator and artist.

Living in Indonesia has enriched my life with new perspectives and deep connections to the land, people, and culture. When I’m not teaching or creating, you’ll find me hiking, surfing, mountain biking, or simply wandering with a notebook and camera, exploring this beautiful and diverse world.
